An Important Announcement Regarding Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher (v1.26.1)

Published by Fluffy

Donut Team addresses various issues encountered when using Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher.

Hello everyone,

As you may be aware, several issues have been encountered when using Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher 1.26.1. While we've distributed individual fixes for these issues when they've occured, we have not yet released an update that addresses all of them to the wider community.

We are currently working on a new update that will address these issues and provide a more stable experience for all users. In the meantime, we wanted to provide a list of known issues and workarounds for those who are experiencing them.

Encrypted Mods Not Loading

With the release of Windows 10 Update KB5038285 and Windows 11 Update KB5037591, a new issue has been introduced that prevents the Mod Launcher from loading mods that use encrypted files. While we are working on a fix, we wanted to provide a temporary workaround for those who are affected by this issue.

If you are experiencing issues with the Mod Launcher not loading mods that use encrypted files, you can use the following workaround to resolve the issue:

  1. Ensure that you have the latest version of the Mod Launcher (Version 1.26.1) installed.
  2. Ensure that Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher is closed.
  3. Delete the "Lucas Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher.exe.config" file from the Mod Launcher's directory. This file should be located in the same directory as the Mod Launcher executable.
  4. Open Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher.

This workaround should allow you to use mods that use encrypted files. We are working on a permanent fix for this issue and will release an update as soon as possible.

Frame Rate Issues

If you're experiencing an issue where the Frame Limiter is less accurate after a Windows update, you can try the following workaround:

  1. Ensure that you have the latest version of the Mod Launcher (Version 1.26.1) installed.
  2. Ensure that Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher is closed.
  3. Open the Mod Launcher's directory.
  4. If one does not already exist, create a "Hacks" folder next to your Launcher executable.
  5. Download HighTimerResolutionTest.lmlh and place it in the "Hacks" folder.
  6. Open Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher.
  7. Enable "High Timer Resolution Test" on the "Unreleased" page.

This workaround should allow you to have a more accurate frame limiter. We intend on shipping this as part of the next update, but we wanted to provide a workaround in the meantime.

This hack has settings that can be adjusted in the "Mod Settings..." menu. All settings should allow the game to run as intended, however please report any issues you may encounter.

Please note: Due to limitations of Windows, waitable timer can be slightly inaccurate with certain targets (ones that 1,000 is not divisible by) (e.g. 60 FPS target should cause 62/63 FPS).

Black Screen on Startup

If you're experiencing an issue where the game displays a black screen on startup, you can try the following bug fix:

  1. Ensure that you have the latest version of the Mod Launcher (1.26.1) installed.
  2. Open Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher.
  3. Go to the "Settings" tab.
  4. Enable "Bug Fixes" and select "Mod Settings..."
  5. Enable the "Late Focus Freeze" option under the "Crashes" section.
  6. Launch the game.

Please note: If you are speedrunning The Simpsons Hit & Run, you must disable the other bug fixes in the "Mod Settings..." menu to ensure that the game is running as intended. "Late Focus Freeze" is an exception to this rule.

If the issue persists, you can try the following workaround:

  1. Ensure that Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher is closed.
  2. Open the Mod Launcher's directory.
  3. If one does not already exist, create a "Hacks" folder next to your Launcher executable.
  4. Download DirectInputAcquireTest.lmlh and place it in the "Hacks" folder.
  5. Open Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher.
  6. Enable "DirectInput Acquire Test" on the "Unreleased" page.

This hack has settings that can be adjusted in the "Mod Settings..." menu. The default settings should allow the game to run as intended. "Ignore All Devices" should be disabled. "Ignore Unsupported Devices" should be enabled for the fix to work.

This workaround should allow you to launch the game without experiencing a black screen on startup. We intend on shipping this as part of the next update, but we wanted to provide a workaround in the meantime.
