Introduction

Hey everyone, this is Loren from Donut Team and welcome to Tuesday Topics #46.

There's only a couple things to go over this time so let's get in to it:

Mod Bakery Release Version Pages

Since the launch and up until very recently, changelogs on Mod Bakery utilized a fairly new web standard: the dialog element.

These are really rad, however, they are not super widely supported yet and I've now replaced the changelog dialog with dedicated pages for each version of a release.

These pages can be viewed with the same "View Changelog" button as before and here's an example.

More Node.js Packages

In the previous Tuesday Topics, I discussed our discontinuation of our internal library Donut Box and a move to various open source packages.

Since then, I've continued publishing a wide array of packages under the Donut Team organization. These are all the new ones since last time:

I've also been working to replace the relevant parts of our codebases with these packages as I create them so we can hopefully fully retire Donut Box in the near future. Doing so will really help streamline deploying updates to our web services as the manner in which Donut Box (npm link) is utilized is kind of clunky.

Internal Docs Discusssions

It's no secret that our documentation could be better, particularly when it comes to topics surrounding the inner workings of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Documenting this game is a monumental task but not an impossible one.

For a long time now, we've wanted to open up our docs to outside contributors. We've considered doing this in the form of making our repo for the docs site public though, for various technical reasons, we haven't done this. That is to say that the code of the docs site is not very good and I've learned a whole heck of a lot since creating it.

So, on that note, we'd like to make a new site to house documentation. One that is built to function more like a Wiki, in the sense that authorized users will be able to freely make changes to it online and have them immediately reflected to other users.

We're not quite ready to discuss the specific plans we have for this beyond this though I expect to do so in the next Tuesday Topics so stay tuned for that.

Conclusion

That's all for this Tuesday Topics, thanks for tuning in! We'll see you again on August 9th!
