Learn about yet another update for Jeff's Map Creator!

  • Modding

Hello everybody, it’s The Butter Apple here with another update on Jeff’s Map Creator!

I am happy to announce that today we are releasing Version 0.4! Let’s get into the changelog!

Importing P3D Files

First up, we have probably the most anticipated feature: importing P3D files.

You are now able to import a P3D file and then modify its locators, change textures, add new models, add new collision and more!

Once you’re done, you can export your newly modified zone and use it in one of your mods!

There’s still a lot to do on this feature but, at this stage, we still hope it will prove useful in editing the game’s original maps.

Static Physics and Static Entity Overhaul

Next up, the UI controls for both Static Physics and Static Entity objects have been heavily overhauled.

Static Entities now take advantage of the Asset Manager for easier usage! Once you drag and drop a model onto a Static Entity, it will be added to the Asset Manager so you can easily access it on other components.

Meanwhile, Static Physics now support multiple shapes!

Note: At the moment, there is a known bug where collision cylinder rotations are not drawn correctly.

Change to Deleting GameObjects

With this version, you may now choose between deleting or dissolving a GameObject:

  • Deleting a GameObject deletes it and its children.
  • Dissolving a GameObject deletes it but moves its children into the parent’s container instead of deleting them.

Dissolving was the behaviour used in previous versions.

Support for 32-bit Systems

With some help from @Lucas Cardellini, the tool now supports 32-bit systems!

Removed Road & Intersection Support (for now)

Due to some issues where the tool could corrupt these chunks, support for them has been removed for now.

Support will return in the future but it was best to remove the broken support in previous versions for the time being.

That’s all I have for today! I apologise for the long wait for this update, there were a lot of large changes!

I’d also like to remind everyone that this tool is still in alpha and it’s very likely that you will encounter bugs or headaches while using it.

That said, while working with it, we recommend that you are careful and create backups frequently. Furthermore, and this is a good rule of thumb in general, you should always place your modified P3D files in a mod folder rather than tampering with your base game install. It’s okay to import from there but never export over your base game files!

As always, if you do encounter an issue or if you have a feature request, please visit the issue tracker.

I’ve also updated the Wiki with this release!

Happy Map Creating!
